UCW Awards 2025: BSU partner rolls out the red carpet for student success
Wednesday, 16 July, 2025Back in April, Bath Spa University partner institution, University Centre Weston (UCW), hosted their annual award ceremony to celebrate the educational achievements of its staff, students and partners.
Hosted at the Winter Gardens, the evening saw numerous awards handed out to members of the UCW community, with BSU representation aplenty.
BSU is proud to be partnered with education providers in the UK and overseas. One such partner, University Centre Weston delivers courses which are designed, assessed, quality assured and awarded by BSU.
Taking home the flagship prize of ‘Bath Spa University Student of the Year’ was Joseph Marcal Ham, studying BA (Hons) Early Years Education at UCW.
Reflecting on his time at UCW, Joseph commented:
“I’ve gained confidence in my abilities and learned to embrace challenges as opportunities for growth.
If you’re looking for a university where you’ll be supported, challenged, and inspired, UCW is a fantastic choice.”
Joseph was one of many students honoured on the night, with multiple students being recognised for their achievements amongst musical performances and a hog roast feast.
UCW Vice Principal for Higher Education, Sadie Skellon reflected on the awards saying:
“It was incredible to celebrate the amazing success of our award winners. We’ve heard so many inspiring stories of success and overcoming adversity. Congratulations to all of our nominees and award winners! Your achievements are what make UCW such a special place to be.”
BSU and UCW have a long-standing partnership and a commitment to collaborative excellence in higher education, with the signing of a new MOU in August 2024 marking 25 years of collaboration between the two organisations.
Upon the signing of the MOU last year, Simon Haslett, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Partnership Strategy) from Bath Spa University, said:
"The partnership between Bath Spa University and UCW exemplifies our shared commitment to excellence in higher education."
This new Memorandum of Understanding reflects our dedication to further strengthening our collaborative efforts in teaching, training, research, and business services across the region."
